Exploring your dance dirty style

We asked Marissa all about her experience dancing 'sexy style' !

Marissa is one of our very own APF instructors, who has competed in Miss Pole Dance, Exotic Generation, Queensland Pole Championships and MORE! Her sexy, slinky style is just mesmerising to watch whether she is dancing slower style or dynamic.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SEXY/DANCE DIRTY STYLE?

I think my style varies on my mood! Sometimes it's flowy and slinky and other times I like more of a hard style exotic with short, sharp movements and lots of flippy base work.

WHO/WHAT IS YOUR INSPIRATION FOR YOUR SEXY STYLE?

I have a few that inspire me in different ways. @polina.larovski and @anela.kuzmina inspire my more hardstyle dances, while my flow is inspired by @kiranoire, @kaya.blum and @oooh_daria. I've also been dabbling in learning to dance off the pole, where I am constantly inspired by @emstockwell_ one of the instructors I learn from.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVE SEXY/DIRTY MOVES?

Honestly, a good old figure 8 head roll never gets old haha! Anyone who's ever been in any of my exotic classes knows it's a staple in my choreo . But most of the time, I like to play around with adding new moves into my repertoire with each choreo I make. It makes creating choreo much harder than it needs to be (lol), but I feel like it would get boring for myself and anyone watching if I didn't!!

DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR POLE DANCERS EXPLORING THEIR DIRTY DANCE STYLE?

My biggest tip if you're struggling to create would be to know your own strengths, and listen to your body and what feels right for you. When I'm making a choreo, I generally only do what my body feels up to on any given day. If I try and force myself into a style I'm not feeling, the creative process takes sooooo much longer, and I never end up creating choreo that I like.

Let your own personality shine through in the way you dance. Please don't feel like you have to be someone you're not, or fit yourself into any one style - the audience will be there to watch YOU do you.
