Pole Dancing Frequently Asked Questions

New to pole dancing and not sure where to begin?
Or looking for a new studio to call home and think we might be the one!?

We’ve covered all your burning questions below…

For our pole newbies and new pole sisters

New To Pole

There are lots of questions that come with starting pole. Not sure what to wear or bring? Do I wear ‘the shoes’? Am I even strong enough? (you are!). We’ve been there before and got you covered to help you start your pole dancing journey!

  • Finding the perfect outfit for your pole dancing class is all about comfort and functionality. Since we use our skin to grip the pole, here's what we recommend:

Top: A comfy t-shirt or singlet that lets you move freely.

Bottom: Shorts are ideal for the grip, but if you're not quite ready to show off your legs, that's totally okay! You can start with baggy pants and pull them up if needed.

Shoes: We mostly pole barefoot, so don’t stress about footwear

Remember, pole dancing is about embracing who you are, and our studio is a judgment-free zone! Wear what makes you feel comfortable, confident, and ready to shine on the pole.

  • Absolutely not! Your comfort is our priority, and there are options for everyone:

Bare feet: Majority of our classes are done in bare feet. It can be more comfortable and supports the natural grip and connection to the pole.

Heels in Choreo Classes: Many of our students choose to wear heels in our choreo classes to add flair and style, but they are by no means mandatory. Some more experienced students also choose to wear them during tricks classes.

Socks: Socks are a great alternative for those who don’t have or prefer not to wear heels. This is also a great option for students new to choreo as it helps with smooth transitions

At our studio, we celebrate individuality and encourage you to dance in the way that feels right for you. It's all about personal preference.

If you are ready to buy your first pair of heels, check out our Uncovered Podcast episode all about picking your first pair of pleasers.

  • We admire your enthusiasm, but we recommend attending just 1 Beginner 1 class per week.

Each Beginner 1 class covers the same content, and while repetition can be helpful, it may also lead to boredom. Instead, we encourage you to use your second class for a different drop-in each week. The variety will keep your pole journey exciting and fresh! Our beginners often rave about trick classes or beginner-friendly choreo classes. Give them a try!

By attending different drop-ins, you'll get to learn from various instructors and connect with new pole sisters.

Remember, pole dancing is about growth, creativity, and community. Mixing up your classes ensures you'll never get bored and always have something new to learn.

  • Embarking on your pole dancing journey is an exciting adventure, filled with discovery and personal growth. Here are some pro tips to help you soar:

Embrace Your Unique Journey: Every dancer's path is unique. Trust the process and enjoy every step of your personal growth.

Wear the Right Attire: Comfy workout clothes that allow movement are key. Skin contact with the pole aids grip, so shorts are often recommended.

Stay Hydrated and Nourished: Proper hydration and nutrition will fuel your body, helping you perform your best.

Attend Classes Regularly: Consistency is key to progress. Whether you're building strength or improving your technique, regular practice leads to success.

Be Patient with Yourself: Progress may take time, but each effort gets you closer to your goals. Celebrate every achievement, no matter how small.

Connect with Others: The pole community is supportive and empowering. Make new friends, learn from others, and share your journey.

Ask Questions and Seek Guidance: Our instructors are here to help! Don't hesitate to ask questions and seek personalized guidance.

Have Fun! Above all, enjoy the experience. Pole dancing is about expressing yourself and finding joy in movement. Let loose, be yourself, and most importantly, have fun! 🌟💃

Classes

We love to keep your pole dancing journey fun and flexible! We want you to be able to experience all facets of pole and pick what you love most. Our class structure is created with flexibility and choice in mind. We’ve covered the basics for you so you know what to book, how and when.

  • This is where foundations are made!

We have two types of series classes, Level and Accessory classes. Our level classes run off our studio curriculum. In each level, you build upon the skills mastered from previous levels. While accessory classes can be different every term, providing structure but maximum FUN and VARIETY!

Series classes can only be booked on a membership.

  • A drop-in class equals zero commitment and 100% fun!

Change your drop-in classes weekly to build your unique pole journey. Drop-in classes generally focus on a particular area of pole dancing. For example, Tricks focuses on tricks and Choreo on dancing. The content covered in drop-in classes changes each week, ensuring you never get bored! Book these classes from 6am Monday for the upcoming week, via the APF app or MindBody app. We recommend you try a variety of them to see which you like most.

    • Choreo

      • Sensual Flow

      • Slow Flow

From Beginner's Steps to Advanced Moves: Our curriculum starts with a solid foundation and builds up to complex and exciting techniques. Whether you're just starting out or you're an experienced dancer, we have a place for you in our studio.

Grading and Prerequisites: Starting from Beginner 2, moving to the next level isn't just about completing a course. It's about mastering it! You'll need to meet specific prerequisites confidently before advancing. Our instructors are here to ensure that you're ready to take on new challenges.

Personalised Feedback: We're committed to your growth. Our instructors will provide constructive feedback and guide you through your pole dancing journey, ensuring you have the skills needed to excel at each level. You will check-in with the core tricks, in week 6 and 9 every term.

Ep 23: Our love-hate relationship with grading

  • You get to enjoy both!

Our level series classes incorporate all core areas of pole from strength and conditioning, to level tricks and dance.

Each term series classes have a choreo routine to learn that also includes foundational tricks learned during the term. This is a great way to support building stamina.

Our Invert Your Thinking class is the only series class that is tricks focused. Pole Pleasure also includes a mix of tricks and choreo.

  • Addictive Curves is a class that was inspired by the mindset that sexy comes in many shapes and sizes, to love your body and embrace the curvaceous woman that is you!

Addictive Curves is a class full of loving ladies who support and encourage you and remind you how strong you really are.

In this class, we will work on strengthening all areas of your body, learning how your body moves and embracing it, how to position your body on the pole enabling you to get the best grip and hold.

Every week we will work on a core range of tricks; climbs, pole sit, split grips, knee hook spin- forwards and backward, and fireman spin.

  • Absolute Newbie? If the pole is calling your name for the first time, our Beginner 1 class is your starting point. No experience? No problem!

If you've danced before but it's been a while, we recommend the Beginner 2 class to reignite that spark.

If you're beyond beginner but unsure where you fit in our curriculum, book a level assessment. Our teams will evaluate your skills and place you in the perfect class from Beginner 3 to Elite.

And don't forget! We offer FREE trial classes for both new and experienced pole sisters here.

Drop-Ins Are Always Welcome, no assessment needed for our fun drop-in classes. Just come as you are and enjoy yourself!

Want a sneak peek at what you'll be learning? Here's a full list of our tricks.

Still puzzled? Our friendly team is ready to chat and guide you to the class that's calling your name.

  • Just time and a little less choreo. Both classes offer the same curriculum. You will find if you attend a 6-week program, you will cover the same tricks and strengthening as those in the 10-week program, but you will focus less time learning the choreo. This means if you enrol in a 6-week program, you will not complete the entire routine. However, the 10-week classes will. The main reason we provide the condensed version of beginner 1, is to ensure there is always a beginner 1 class to enrol in, all year round.

  • We understand that life can throw curveballs, and schedules can change. If you can't make your regular class night, there's no reason to stress! Here's how you can easily shift gears and keep your pole journey on track:

1️⃣ Cancel Your Class: Simply open the APF app and cancel your scheduled class. Easy peasy!

2️⃣ Re-Book Your Level: If you're missing Monday's Beginner 2, for instance, just hop into Thursday's Beginner 2. We offer multiple options to ensure you won't miss a beat.

3️⃣ Try a Drop-In Class: If there's no match for your level that week, why not try a drop-in class? It's a fun opportunity to explore something new.

4️⃣ A Friendly Reminder: If you're in a 10-week Beginner 1 course, make sure not to attend a 6-week Beginner 1 class, and vice versa. They're unique experiences tailored to different paces.

Need Help? Our team is here to guide you! Just reach out, and we'll help you find the perfect fit for your week.

  • Finding out your desired class is waitlisted can be a bummer. But hey, don't lose hope! Here's the good news:

Join the Waitlist: If the class you're eyeing is currently full, simply join the waitlist. Trust us, these waitlists have a way of moving, and a spot might open up just for you. Waitlist will offer a spot to the next in line and they will have 90 mins to accept, up until 8 hours prior to the class. Here are some more tips on how to structure or prepare for an open practice session:

Ep 34: Make your next practice the best one yet

  • Unfortunately children cannot attend classes. Our studio is a safe space for our community and an escape from everyday life for some women. Given the nature of classes, we are also focused on maintaining the safety of all members in our studio space.

If you can not make the time offered for the Free Trial Class (Experienced), please contact us to book a private-level assessment. Note: Do not book into a standard Free Trial Class, as these are tailored to complete newbies.
